Global Diversity Awareness Month History

History of Global Diversity Awareness Month

After the Second World War, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly at the Palais de Chaillot, in Paris. The Declaration represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are inherently entitled. It is essentially an acknowledgment that we should remember and understand the value of each human being, regardless of their nationality, color, race, sex, gender, country of origin, language, or otherwise.

As the world becomes more and more connected and globalized, it’s important to remember that a ‘global monoculture’, or a homogenization of cultures, kills off traditional cultures and unique traits of people. Embracing cultural diversity – in all aspects of life – is the answer to avoiding a global monoculture. The phrase ‘cultural diversity’ can also refer to having different cultures respect each other’s differences.

Although its origins are difficult to trace, Global Diversity Awareness Month represents the perfect opportunity for you to learn more about new cultures, and explore some of the diversity that makes the world such a wonderful place.

Blindness Awareness Month History

History of Blindness Awareness Month

Blindness Awareness Month launched in October 2009 from The Little Rock Foundation, an organization in Voorhees, New Jersey, dedicated to serving families with blind or visually impaired children. Tina and Rocco Fiorentino formed The Little Rock Foundation one year after the birth of their child, Rocco, who was born four months premature and blind. As Ambassador for The Little Rock Foundation, Rocco has shown the world blindness doesn’t prevent people from living life to the fullest.

Blindness Awareness Month seeks to accomplish many things:

  • Education: Companies around the world teach the public about good eye health and the latest research and innovations in the treatment of eye disorders.
  • Inspiration: Stories are shared about blind or visually impaired people accomplishing incredible things most sighted people do not attempt.
  • Advocacy: Organizations garner support for more resources, research, access, and laws that enable people with visual impairments to live fully productive lives and contribute equally to their communities.

There is no shortage of ways to learn about, celebrate, and support the visually impaired community throughout Blindness Awareness Month.

Tip: Best New Kids Toys Deals: Best New Kids Toys Coupons & Deals October 2021

Every October, Blindness Awareness Month brings a heightened focus on the blind and visually impaired community and the realities of living without sight. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “everyone, if they live long enough, will experience at least one eye condition in their lifetime”. The proof is in the numbers. An estimated 2.2 billion people around the globe suffer from some form of visual impairment or blindness – including everyone who simply wears corrective lenses. One billion of these cases could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed. So, we should all understand how to maintain optimal eye health and how to navigate life with visual impairments, whether for ourselves or loved ones. Read on to learn how you can observe, celebrate, and advocate during Blindness Awareness Month.

SUDEP Action Month 2021

Tip: B-Glowing coupon codes: B-Glowing October Coupons & Promo Codes 2021

When a person with epilepsy dies suddenly and prematurely, this is known as SUDEP. It stands for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy and means that there has been no other cause of death found.

This event is important as it focuses on educating people and asking them to take action surrounding SUDEP rather than it going unnoticed for much longer. It is a complicated issue as it is not yet known why these deaths occur, but that is why this event has been set up.

What Is SUDEP Action Month?

SUDEP Action Month is an event that takes place throughout an entire month, to help raise awareness and encourage people to take action when it comes to learning about SUDEP. There are approximately 50 million people in the world who have epilepsy, and they need to be protected from sudden and premature deaths.

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases around the globe, which is why this is such an important issue. Ensuring that people know about this topic is now always easy, but people can join in this event no matter where they are in the world, meaning that the information can spread on a global level.

How to take part in SUDEP Action Month

Awareness is no longer enough, it is time to start taking action such as sharing the questions that are being posed by the campaign. Promoting the information leaflets and pages that give others the information that they need to understand what SUDEP is and how it impacts people. These are all active things that a person can do if they want to help the campaign advance.

It doesn’t matter if it is one person, an entire school, or just one family if there is something that can be done, do it. It is never possible to know who it is going to reach, who is in need of the information that has been provided or who needs the advice on how to keep themselves as safe as possible.

History of SUDEP Action Month

In 2017, the campaign changed its name from SUDEP Awareness Month to SUDEP Action Month as more needed to be done to educate people. It was no longer enough for one person to be educated in the subject, they needed to share what they know with others so that the whole of society can understand the issue at hand. Taking an active role by doing some of the things talked about above can make all the difference in the world, and that is the goal of this campaign. Educating but also asking people to take action, communicate with each other, and ask questions when there is something that is unclear.

SUDEP is a condition that needs more research, but to get this completed, more people need to be educated and empathetic, caring more about the issue at hand. Get people talking about it through the month, ensure that those who don’t know what the problem is are being told, and make sure that action is being taken all over the world.

Pizza Month 2021

Tip: Enfamil coupon codes: Enfamil Exclusive! 10% Off $200

Truer words have, perhaps, never been spoken. Pizza is a wonderful thing, and there’s really no such thing as bad pizza, even the worst pizza is still pretty good. Pizza has been around for an incredibly long time, the word itself going back as far as 997 AD in southern Italy.

Pizza Month gives you an entire month to celebrate this amazing food, and more than ample time to try it in all its variations and permutations.

History of Pizza Month

The History of Pizza Month is, in part, the history of Pizza. Pizza Month was originally created by Gerry Durnell in October 1984, publisher of Pizza Today, a magazine dedicated to this delicious pie! The Pizza was likely derived from Focaccia bread, a roman flatbread commonly served with toppings. From that time moving forward there have been developments that slowly led to the wonderful comfort food we all know and love as pizza.

Now, this doesn’t mean that it was a straight line, mind you, not at all. Some say that Roman soldiers created the first pizza when they added cheese and olive oil to Matzah bread. But one thing is known for certain, pizza as we know it today came into being as a result of the discovery of the tomato in the Americas, and its return to Europe in the 16th century.

So where did the pizza begin? The pizza as a flatbread with a tomato sauce started in Naples, and quickly became popular. Until the 1830’s it was almost exclusively sold from open-air stands and out of pizza bakeries, a tradition which is largely followed even today.

One other fun piece of trivia is the source of the ‘marinara’ sauce that is the traditional tomato sauce. Have you ever wondered why it’s called marinara? Because it was created by “La Marinara” the mariner’s wife, to serve to her seafaring husband upon return from fishing the Bay of Naples.

How to celebrate Pizza Month

If we have to encourage you to go out and eat all the pizza you can get your hands on this month, we’re not entirely certain that Pizza Month is for you. Who needs encouragement to celebrate this month? Well, if you’re wanting to truly honor the pizza, then it’s time to try some new toppings on your pizza and experience the full range of what the pizza can be! Go out, try something new, and enjoy pizza!

Handbag Day 2021

Tip: Signs On The Cheap discount codes: Signs On The Cheap 55% Off Custom Signs

It’s no secret that many women love handbags, sometimes perhaps a little too much, but who would have thought that it would ever get to the point where an entire day of the year would be put aside especially for handbags to be celebrated in all their glory?

Learn About Handbag Day

“I want someone to look at me the way I look at a Chanel bag.”

Well, believe it or not, Handbag Day exists, and real people actually do take some time out of their day to celebrate it and pay tribute to their beloved collection of handbags as well as all those they wish they could afford.

It is a day when women talk about handbags…even more than usual, both on the Internet, through blogs, and in real life with friends. It is a day where the greatest designs and designers are discussed and celebrated.

And also a day through which the purchase of a new handbag, or bags, for the more extravagant, can be justified and needs no explanation.

We are sure all ladies will appreciate this date. After all, it is often remarked that women keep everything but the kitchen sink in their handbags! While you should never go into a woman’s handbag, if you did, you would probably be shocked by the sheer number of different things inside. And so, it is only right that we pay tribute to such an important accessory. A handbag is our trusty companion; it goes everywhere with us.

Of course, you don’t need to be female in order to celebrate this trend. There are a lot of bags on the market today that have been created for men. In fact, the oldest purse known dates back 5000 years, and it was worn by a male; Otzi the Iceman. Men used to carry purses so that they could hold all of their coins.

While handbags are more popular with women today, designers in Europe in the ‘70s revived this trend for men as well. This is something that has only gotten more and more momentum. In fact, there has been a much more diverse range of accessory bags for men that have been marketed since the ‘90s.

In the United States, the styles for men that are more common tend to be those that are variations on messenger bags or backpacks. They tend to have more of a unisex or masculine appearance. However, it’s not to say that the industry is not thriving. In fact, the worldwide trade in the men’s small leather goods and bag sector is $4 billion per annum.

History of Handbag Day

“My biggest fear is that when I die, my husband will sell all my bags for what I told him they cost.”

In order to understand the history of Handbag Day, we need to delve a little bit deeper into the history of the handbag. Purses were worn by early modern Europeans for the sole purpose of carrying coins. They were created using leather or soft fabric, and men wore them just as regularly as women did.

Young girls were taught how to embroider clothing during the 17th century. This was considered a skill that was vital for marriage. Not only this, but it helped them to craft truly stunning handbags.

Fashions in Europe changed in the late 18th century. They moved towards bags that had more of a slender shape. They were inspired by the silhouettes of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece. Ladies wanted purses that would not look untidy or bulky in their appearance. This resulted in the creation of reticules.

Reticules is a term that is used to describe bags that had wrist straps and were made of fine fabrics, for example, velvet and silk. They became highly popular in France first and foremost. After a short while, their popularity spread to the United Kingdom, and they were considered indispensable here. The trend was not adopted by men, however. Instead, they used pockets, which had started to become popular in trousers for men, as well as purses.

It was during the Industrial Revolution that the modern handbag, pouch, clutch, or purse thrived in the United Kingdom. This was partly attributed to the increase in railway travel.

Samuel Parkinson, a confectionary entrepreneur and industrialist from Doncaster, ordered a site of different handbags for his wife. When he was traveling and ordering some trunks and cases, he realized that his wife’s purse was too small for everything required. Plus, the material that it was crafted from would not have withstood the journey.

Because of this, he decided to order different bags in different sizes for various occasions for his wife. He requested that the bags were crafted using the same leather that was used for his trunks and cases. This is how the first set of luxury handbags were created, as H. J. Cave of London adhered to the orders of Samuel. These are the sorts of bags that you would recognize today!

However, it was not all plain sailing for H. J. Cave, as you may have expected. Although he continued to create and advertise these handbags, a lot of critics said that they were unnecessary. Some critics even said that the heavy material and size of the bags would break women’s backs. After 1865, H. J. Cave stopped promoting the bags as a consequence. It was not until 2010 that the production of handbags was resumed by the brand.

How to celebrate Handbag Day

“I’m very organized these days, and I keep my life in my handbag, like most women.”

It goes without saying that the best way to celebrate Handbag Day is to treat yourself to a new handbag. There are so many different handbag styles to choose from nowadays, from totes to satchels. This means that you should have no trouble finding a handbag that is right for you. No matter your individual style, color preference, or the belongings that you intend to store within your handbag; you should have no trouble finding something that is right for you. Why not donate your current bag to a charity store or sell it online in order to make way for your new bag?

You can also get involved with Handbag Day on your blog, YouTube channel, and social media platforms. A lot of bags have stories behind them, so why not share this with your followers? You can show them the different bags that you own, and tell them the story behind the bag. This is a fun way of using Handbag Day to engage with your followers, friends, and family members.
