Dyslexia Awareness Month 2021

Tip: lalalab. promo codes: lalalab. 20% Off Your Order

Being able to read and write with ease is something most of us simply take for granted. But imagine what it would be like to look at a page of text and see distorted letters swirling before your eyes, or not seeing the difference between the letters “b” and “d”, etc. Sounds pretty awful, doesn’t it?

However, this is a problem that affects from 5% to 10% of the world’s population, making their lives more difficult each and every day. Dyslexia Awareness Month is the perfect time to think about how much harder dyslexic people’s lives are than our own and try to be more understanding of their situation.

History of Dyslexia Awareness Month

Dyslexia was first identified in German physician Oswald Berkhan in 1881 and officially named “dyslexia” by ophthalmologist Rudolph Berlin 6 years later. Berkhan discovered the existence of the developmental reading disorder later named dyslexia while studying the case of a young boy who had severe problems learning to read and write properly, despite being overall bright and intellectually and physically capable.

Since dyslexia was discovered, physicians the world over have been working on different ways to help the dyslexic manage their disorder, and a special dyslexia font has been invented to help those afflicted to read more easily. Dyslexia Awareness Month was Created by The International Dyslexia Association and takes place over the entire course of October each year.

How to Celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Month

The best way to celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Month would be to do your best to see for yourself what being dyslexic means, and just how much it can impair your abilities to do different things you usually never think twice about, like reading your favorite magazine or billboards. Many images and videos have been made to help people understand how dyslexia works, so take the time to go through some of them in order to understand the extent of dyslexic people’s hardships.

Another thing you could do is take part in the various Dyslexia Awareness events organized worldwide to help people become more aware of the disorder. These include exhibitions of art created by the dyslexic that are visual representations of how they see the world. There are also dances organized in various places that anyone wishing to support the cause may attend and encourage others to attend as well.

There are also numerous workshops you can attend that will teach you what you can do to make the lives of those with dyslexia around you a bit easier—even something as small as a bit more patience and understanding can go a long way. You will also learn how to recognize the signs that your child may be dyslexic in order to prevent him or her from experiencing the embarrassment and frustration that accompanies not being able to read properly.

Early detection of dyslexia can work miracles for a child’s self-esteem by helping the child understand he or she is not worse or less intelligent than other children, and that steps can be taken to reduce their problems at school. And if you do not have enough time to do any of these things, you can also donate a bit of money to The International Dyslexia Association, that has been working tirelessly for years to make sure dyslexic children, teens and adults don’t fall behind and miss out on all of the benefits a good education has to offer.

Listicles National Chiropractic Month 2021

5 Tips For A Pain-Free Back

  1. Work on Your Posterior Core

Your core comprises both abdominal and back muscles. Generally, most people have stronger abdominal muscles. Spend more time on the muscles in your back when you are at the gym.

  2. Practice Endurance Over Strength

Focus on getting more repetitions out of your back exercises than increasing the weight your are lifting. The "plank," an isometric core exercise, is a great way to strengthen the muscles in your back.

  3. Try the "Hip Hinge" Instead

When you're bending down to lift something, make it a point to do the "hip hinge" while keeping your back straight. When you avoid bending your back, you will avoid most back injuries.

  4. Wear Better Shoes

Shoes help your body and spine stay aligned. They should fit nicely around your heel without being too tight, to avoid a bad walking or standing posture.

  5. Get Up From Your Desk Regularly

Your lower spine is three times more stressed when you are sitting, compared to standing. Long periods of continued sitting can lead to chronic back conditions. Take a break from work every 30 minutes or so. Even a quick walk is enough.

Tip: Hilton Garden Inn coupon codes: Hilton Garden Inn Promo Codes, Coupons November 2021

Almost eight in 10 Americans have an episode of lower back pain at some point in their lives. Chronic back pain can result in lowered productivity, which can adversely affect your earning potential — not to mention your quality of life. Often, pain-killing opioids are prescribed as a quick-fix solution. Excessive use of opioids can be detrimental to your health. National Chiropractic Month, observed every October, emphasizes alternative methods of treatment, which yield better results.

Black Cat Awareness Month 2021

Tip: Target Black Friday 2021 Sales: Target Black Friday 2021 Coupons & Deals

There are many superstitions surrounding the feline with sable fur, and the one stating that your luck is going to have a downward turn if you have one walk in front of you is the most prevalent. We would like to remind you, however, that Groucho Marx has the right of it. All it means when a black cat walks in front of you is that the animal is clearly going somewhere, and should either be pet, fed treats, or left well enough alone. None of these choices is going to have an effect on your luck, one way or another, and that’s just one message being touted by International Black Cat Awareness Month.

History of International Black Cat Awareness Month

The creation of International Black Cat Awareness Month came about after it’s creator, Layla Morgan Wilde, noticed that while there are two days dedicated to black cats in the world (One in the UK, one in the US) there wasn’t anything dedicated to them on a national level. Such an observation is desperately needed, as superstitions surrounding black cats had gotten so out of control that shelters won’t even adopt them out during October any longer. Too often the cats were being adopted as part of the Halloween holiday mystique, and would be abandoned or worse after the holiday passed.

Throughout the rest of the year, it’s typically more difficult to get them adopted, how much more difficult? Black cats are adopted at a rate 50% lower than any other color of cat, which we can’t understand at all. A sable furred cat is perhaps one of the most beautiful animals to walk the earth.

How To Celebrate International Black Cat Awareness Month

The first and best way is to do your part in dispelling the myths surrounding black cats and their supposed luck-altering abilities. If you’re going to a shelter to adopt a kitten, consider adopting a black kitten to ensure they find their way into a good home, and if it’s a black kitten with special needs so much the better! (Special needs cats get adopted at rates below that of even healthy black kittens, so special needs black kittens are especially in need of love!) Bringing the love of a new black furbaby in your life, or helping another one get adopted, is the best celebration they could hope for.

Traditional National Cat Day

National Cat Day Traditions

The main purpose behind National Cat Day is to recognize the number of cats in need of rescue each year and so it is tradition for people to try and raise awareness of the topic. As well as those cats in need of rescue, many choose to observe the day by showing some love to the cat or cats in their life.

Tip: Cafe Joe USA coupon codes: 35% Off Cafe Joe USA Coupons & Promo Codes October 2021

National Cat Day is celebrated on October 29. It was created by Colleen Paige to bring awareness to the number of cats that need to be rescued each year. Cats remind us that just when you think they’ve lost interest in you, they’ll turn around and melt your hearts. When it appears they’re too busy staring out at passing cars, chasing nylon mice, and sending tiny multi-colored balls to their under-the-refrigerator graves, they’ll somehow let you know that their very world revolves around you. Just wait. It’ll happen when you least expect it. Cats have their own timetable.

Global Diversity Awareness Month History

History of Global Diversity Awareness Month

After the Second World War, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly at the Palais de Chaillot, in Paris. The Declaration represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are inherently entitled. It is essentially an acknowledgment that we should remember and understand the value of each human being, regardless of their nationality, color, race, sex, gender, country of origin, language, or otherwise.

As the world becomes more and more connected and globalized, it’s important to remember that a ‘global monoculture’, or a homogenization of cultures, kills off traditional cultures and unique traits of people. Embracing cultural diversity – in all aspects of life – is the answer to avoiding a global monoculture. The phrase ‘cultural diversity’ can also refer to having different cultures respect each other’s differences.

Although its origins are difficult to trace, Global Diversity Awareness Month represents the perfect opportunity for you to learn more about new cultures, and explore some of the diversity that makes the world such a wonderful place.

We live in a multicultural society and embracing the values of various cultures only strengthens our understanding and appreciation of the world. National Chili Month History

History of National Chili Month

From cowboys to Girl Scouts, everyone who goes on camping trips has experienced the culinary delight that is chili con carne, also known simply as chili. Named for the spicy peppers that are its key ingredient, this simple, hearty, and delicious Southwestern staple has achieved cult status in the United States.

First prepared somewhere in Southern Texas or Northern Mexico, chili started out as a simple preparation of meat and spices. Working-class women stewed beef pieces, chilis, and other vegetables and spices to make a hearty dish that would feed a whole family.

In San Antonio, women known as “chili queens” made and sold chili by the bowlful in the city’s markets. Soon “chili parlors” began popping up, and the practice spread throughout Texas and other states, with each chili parlor claiming its own special, secret recipe. In the days before widespread home refrigeration you could purchase “brick chili,” a dehydrated version of the stew that kept longer and could be cooked with some water.

In 1893, the San Antonio chili stand became an exhibit at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, showcasing the humble “bowl o’ red” to the nation and popularizing chili across the Midwest.

At its core, chili is just a seasoned stew of beef and chili peppers, topped with cheese and onions. But don’t be fooled — this deceptively simple dish sparks heated debates over what ingredients truly belong there. The only ingredients people can agree on are chilis and beef — the rest is up for debate. Even though beans seem like a natural addition, some chili connoisseurs swear beans have no place there at all.

Today, chili remains a popular part of American cuisine and a ubiquitous camping food. You can find dozens of varieties including beef, bean-less, vegetarian, and turkey to suit your tastes.

When the weather cools down and the campfire gets going, there’s no better comfort food than chili to warm your soul and make it a perfect night. Every October, when autumn starts to chill our bones, break out the bread bowls and warm up with National Chili Month. Though its origins are murky, one thing we know is that chili doesn’t come from Mexico. Wherever it was created, this warm and filling Southwestern staple has become a beloved American dish and cultural touchstone, with festivals and cook-offs dedicated to the many varieties of chili.

National Apple Day History

History of National Apple Day

Studies have shown that the earliest known wild apple trees cropped up in regions of central Asia anywhere between 10 and 20 million years ago. Though initially their flavor skewed toward sour, apple trees would evolve to produce sweeter fruits. This development would make them a more attractive food for wild animals and thereby assist with their diffusion throughout the continent. The apple would eventually spread to Europe as early as the 17th century BC; some historians believe it was during this time that the Roman populus cultivated and developed the apple into the larger, sweeter, more edible fruits that we are familiar with today.

Since then, the apple has found its way to the forefront of parts of American consciousness and identity (the iconic story of Johnny Appleseed, the phrase “as American as apple pie,” and the nickname “The Big Apple” all come to mind). In fact, though, the United States plays a small part in the worldwide history of the apple; the only native variety to the country is the crabapple, often dismissed as too bitter to enjoy naturally.

Furthermore, though also observed in America, National Apple Day actually has its roots in Europe. It was created by the U.K.-based charity organization Common Ground on October 21st of 1990 in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of diversity in different communities. Though the initial meaning of the holiday has been somewhat forgotten, apple-lovers everywhere still enthusiastically use the holiday as a chance to rave about their love for the more than 7,500 different varieties of apple grown across the globe!

Listicles Caffeine Addiction Recovery Month 2021

5 Caffeine Facts That'll Keep You Awake

  1. Blame Brazil

This country exports more coffee than any other — almost 5.7 billion pounds each year, according to the International Coffee Organization. Brazil has been the world’s biggest exporter of coffee since the 1800s.

  2. The Finns are highly caffeinated

People in Finland drink more coffee than anybody on earth, consuming about 12 kilograms per person per year, according to the WorldAtlas. Norway comes in a distant second at 9.9.

  3. Withdrawal symptoms get serious

Those who experience symptoms of caffeine withdrawal commonly identify the following reactions as the most severe: headache, fatigue, drowsiness, depressed or irritable mood, and difficulty concentrating.

  4. Consume caffeine carefully

Although rare, people can and have overdosed and died from ingesting too much caffeine.

  5. You can be dependent, but maybe not addicted

Science finds that caffeine doesn't really fit into the category of truly addictive substances. "Caffeine has minor-league side effects compared with real addictive drugs," says Dr. Peter Martin, director of the Institute for Coffee Studies at Vanderbilt University.

Caffeine is added to many of our favorite products, and it occurs naturally in many others. Boss’ Day 2021

Tip: R.C. Willey coupon codes: R.C. Willey $25 Towards Next Purchase With Sign Up For Emails

Sometimes we just don’t think enough about our Boss’s or what they go through to help keep us working and make sure our wages get paid. We often think of them as slave drivers or adversaries with unrealistic expectations of what we can accomplish in a day.

But do we ever stop to think about the work they put into getting new clients, keeping old ones, and ensuring everything moves along smoothly? Mostly not. Boss’ Day reminds us that it’s not all roses at the top of the pecking order either, so be sure to thank your boss for all they do!

History of Boss’ Day

Boss’ Day was created by Patricia Bays Haroski in 1958 when she registered it with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce while working as a secretary at State Farm Insurance. The date she selected was her father’s birthday, due in no small part to the fact that she was working for him at the time.

She felt that the work her father did was rarely recognized and that employees rarely showed appreciation for these people who kept their workplaces moving smoothly. By 1979 it had grown popular enough that Hallmark Cards issued a Boss’ Day card to honor the holiday.

It continued to grow in popularity until recent years when growing social awareness and class awareness has led to controversy about its celebration.

There is a power differential between employees and employers, where the employer generally makes more money and has more power overall, and thus it has been posited that Boss’ Day should not be observed and that any gift-giving in the workplace should flow down.

It’s an interesting debate, but we feel that it’s important to recognize that Bosses are people too, and while they may be in a position of greater power, they also have greater responsibility, and their efforts are what gives employees continuing work.

Perhaps both Boss and Employee need to work together to create an environment of teamwork in the workplace, and Boss’ Day can be a good step in that direction.

How to celebrate Boss’ Day

Celebrate Boss’ Day by giving them a nice card, or just stop in and let them know how much you appreciate what they do. If you realize that you don’t really know what their work consists of or what demands are placed on them, Boss’ Day can also be a good opportunity to learn exactly what they do each day to keep your workplace moving smoothly.

The challenge of celebrating Boss’ Day

Not everyone will jump at the thought of lavishing the boss with presents. Not to be cynical, but relationships may be strained and not altogether healthy. In that case, it’d be weird to leave flowers on their desk, although it would be a nice olive branch. Tip: don’t get them an olive branch.

On the flip side, nobody wants to look like they’re cozying up to the decision-maker. Boss’ Day as an employee is challenging, but it doesn’t have to be:

  • Keep it simple – don’t overthink a gift. A card is sincere and says everything that needs saying without going over-the-top. Flowers, however, appear extravagant and may put the boss in a tight spot.
  • Use jokes as cover – a gag gift is always an excellent form of protection. The wittiness and humor outweigh everything, meaning you don’t get labeled the boss’ favorite for the wrong reasons. Who knew whoopie cushions were invented for Boss’ Day?!
  • Say it out loud – don’t want to get them a present, even if it’s a joke? That’s fair, but remember that actions speak louder than words. Research shows that high performers are the ones who understand their role in maintaining relationships. Pulling your weight doesn’t get any easier than saying, “Happy Boss’ Day, boss.” The title of the holiday does 25% of the work!
  • Let HR do it – forget everything you read about maintaining relationships and being the bigger person – that’s what Human Resources is for! Joking aside, presents on Boss’ Day may appear conceited. By getting HR involved in the process, you can keep the head honcho happy without sticking your head out of the parapet.

Why is Boss’ Day worth the effort?

It’s not surprising that some people think it’s a croc and needs abolishing. Okay, “some” is misleading! As decadent as the idea seems, it is well worth the effort for employees. Don’t forget that cozying up to the person who makes decisions can have a powerful impact on a career. And, if you don’t care what people think, that’s all the better!

Mostly, though, Boss’ Day is about showing appreciation and maintaining harmony in the office. Too often, workers forget that those at the top of the corporate ladder are humans and not faceless robots. They would love to be part of the team, but it’s not appropriate. Boss’ Day is that one time it’s okay to remind them that you appreciate the difficulty of their job.

As ever, it’s never a bad move to encourage a day of drinking coffee and eating cake in the workplace!

How should bosses act?

Bosses, if you’re reading this – give your workers a pay rise!

In all seriousness, a leader needs to know the steps to take to accept a gift, and it starts by not encouraging mandatory observation of the holiday. This isn’t North Korea – you’re not the Supreme Leader!

After that, it’s all about saying thank you and being gracious for the thought. Reminding people of their importance, even though it’s not their day, will work wonders, too.

How do you celebrate Boss’ Day as a collective?

Listicles National Dessert Month 2021

Five More Delicious Reasons We Love Dessert

  1. Credit the French

The word "dessert" originated from the French word "desservir," meaning "to clear the table."

  2. Leave room for pudding

In the United Kingdom, dessert is usually referred to as "pudding."

  3. Boston Cream Pie? It's a cake

You read that correctly. The inventor, an Armenian-French chef, likely made the original in a pie tin — more common than cake pans at the time. English was not his first language. You can guess the rest.

  4. German — but not Germany

German chocolate cake was named after Sam German, who developed German’s sweet baking chocolate in 1852.

  5. Baked Alaska is neither

New York's famed Delmonico's Restaurant named this dessert as a way to celebrate Alaska’s annexation.

Dessert “Day”? Not long enough. Dessert “Week”? Now, we’re getting closer. Honestly though, we can all agree that desserts deserve their own month. That’s because you can have a totally different treat at the end of every October day and you’ll still have so many left to try. So let’s face the cold sweet facts. Dessert’s a necessity. Why,it’s quite possibly the only reason kids will finish their vegetables. But as an adult, go ahead and have some extra pie. No one’s looking!

Blindness Awareness Month History

History of Blindness Awareness Month

Blindness Awareness Month launched in October 2009 from The Little Rock Foundation, an organization in Voorhees, New Jersey, dedicated to serving families with blind or visually impaired children. Tina and Rocco Fiorentino formed The Little Rock Foundation one year after the birth of their child, Rocco, who was born four months premature and blind. As Ambassador for The Little Rock Foundation, Rocco has shown the world blindness doesn’t prevent people from living life to the fullest.

Blindness Awareness Month seeks to accomplish many things:

  • Education: Companies around the world teach the public about good eye health and the latest research and innovations in the treatment of eye disorders.
  • Inspiration: Stories are shared about blind or visually impaired people accomplishing incredible things most sighted people do not attempt.
  • Advocacy: Organizations garner support for more resources, research, access, and laws that enable people with visual impairments to live fully productive lives and contribute equally to their communities.

There is no shortage of ways to learn about, celebrate, and support the visually impaired community throughout Blindness Awareness Month.

Tip: Best New Kids Toys Deals: Best New Kids Toys Coupons & Deals October 2021

Every October, Blindness Awareness Month brings a heightened focus on the blind and visually impaired community and the realities of living without sight. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “everyone, if they live long enough, will experience at least one eye condition in their lifetime”. The proof is in the numbers. An estimated 2.2 billion people around the globe suffer from some form of visual impairment or blindness – including everyone who simply wears corrective lenses. One billion of these cases could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed. So, we should all understand how to maintain optimal eye health and how to navigate life with visual impairments, whether for ourselves or loved ones. Read on to learn how you can observe, celebrate, and advocate during Blindness Awareness Month.

SUDEP Action Month 2021

Tip: B-Glowing coupon codes: B-Glowing October Coupons & Promo Codes 2021

When a person with epilepsy dies suddenly and prematurely, this is known as SUDEP. It stands for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy and means that there has been no other cause of death found.

This event is important as it focuses on educating people and asking them to take action surrounding SUDEP rather than it going unnoticed for much longer. It is a complicated issue as it is not yet known why these deaths occur, but that is why this event has been set up.

What Is SUDEP Action Month?

SUDEP Action Month is an event that takes place throughout an entire month, to help raise awareness and encourage people to take action when it comes to learning about SUDEP. There are approximately 50 million people in the world who have epilepsy, and they need to be protected from sudden and premature deaths.

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases around the globe, which is why this is such an important issue. Ensuring that people know about this topic is now always easy, but people can join in this event no matter where they are in the world, meaning that the information can spread on a global level.

How to take part in SUDEP Action Month

Awareness is no longer enough, it is time to start taking action such as sharing the questions that are being posed by the campaign. Promoting the information leaflets and pages that give others the information that they need to understand what SUDEP is and how it impacts people. These are all active things that a person can do if they want to help the campaign advance.

It doesn’t matter if it is one person, an entire school, or just one family if there is something that can be done, do it. It is never possible to know who it is going to reach, who is in need of the information that has been provided or who needs the advice on how to keep themselves as safe as possible.

History of SUDEP Action Month

In 2017, the campaign changed its name from SUDEP Awareness Month to SUDEP Action Month as more needed to be done to educate people. It was no longer enough for one person to be educated in the subject, they needed to share what they know with others so that the whole of society can understand the issue at hand. Taking an active role by doing some of the things talked about above can make all the difference in the world, and that is the goal of this campaign. Educating but also asking people to take action, communicate with each other, and ask questions when there is something that is unclear.

SUDEP is a condition that needs more research, but to get this completed, more people need to be educated and empathetic, caring more about the issue at hand. Get people talking about it through the month, ensure that those who don’t know what the problem is are being told, and make sure that action is being taken all over the world.

Pizza Month 2021

Tip: Enfamil coupon codes: Enfamil Exclusive! 10% Off $200

Truer words have, perhaps, never been spoken. Pizza is a wonderful thing, and there’s really no such thing as bad pizza, even the worst pizza is still pretty good. Pizza has been around for an incredibly long time, the word itself going back as far as 997 AD in southern Italy.

Pizza Month gives you an entire month to celebrate this amazing food, and more than ample time to try it in all its variations and permutations.

History of Pizza Month

The History of Pizza Month is, in part, the history of Pizza. Pizza Month was originally created by Gerry Durnell in October 1984, publisher of Pizza Today, a magazine dedicated to this delicious pie! The Pizza was likely derived from Focaccia bread, a roman flatbread commonly served with toppings. From that time moving forward there have been developments that slowly led to the wonderful comfort food we all know and love as pizza.

Now, this doesn’t mean that it was a straight line, mind you, not at all. Some say that Roman soldiers created the first pizza when they added cheese and olive oil to Matzah bread. But one thing is known for certain, pizza as we know it today came into being as a result of the discovery of the tomato in the Americas, and its return to Europe in the 16th century.

So where did the pizza begin? The pizza as a flatbread with a tomato sauce started in Naples, and quickly became popular. Until the 1830’s it was almost exclusively sold from open-air stands and out of pizza bakeries, a tradition which is largely followed even today.

One other fun piece of trivia is the source of the ‘marinara’ sauce that is the traditional tomato sauce. Have you ever wondered why it’s called marinara? Because it was created by “La Marinara” the mariner’s wife, to serve to her seafaring husband upon return from fishing the Bay of Naples.

How to celebrate Pizza Month

If we have to encourage you to go out and eat all the pizza you can get your hands on this month, we’re not entirely certain that Pizza Month is for you. Who needs encouragement to celebrate this month? Well, if you’re wanting to truly honor the pizza, then it’s time to try some new toppings on your pizza and experience the full range of what the pizza can be! Go out, try something new, and enjoy pizza!

Handbag Day 2021

Tip: Signs On The Cheap discount codes: Signs On The Cheap 55% Off Custom Signs

It’s no secret that many women love handbags, sometimes perhaps a little too much, but who would have thought that it would ever get to the point where an entire day of the year would be put aside especially for handbags to be celebrated in all their glory?

Learn About Handbag Day

“I want someone to look at me the way I look at a Chanel bag.”

Well, believe it or not, Handbag Day exists, and real people actually do take some time out of their day to celebrate it and pay tribute to their beloved collection of handbags as well as all those they wish they could afford.

It is a day when women talk about handbags…even more than usual, both on the Internet, through blogs, and in real life with friends. It is a day where the greatest designs and designers are discussed and celebrated.

And also a day through which the purchase of a new handbag, or bags, for the more extravagant, can be justified and needs no explanation.

We are sure all ladies will appreciate this date. After all, it is often remarked that women keep everything but the kitchen sink in their handbags! While you should never go into a woman’s handbag, if you did, you would probably be shocked by the sheer number of different things inside. And so, it is only right that we pay tribute to such an important accessory. A handbag is our trusty companion; it goes everywhere with us.

Of course, you don’t need to be female in order to celebrate this trend. There are a lot of bags on the market today that have been created for men. In fact, the oldest purse known dates back 5000 years, and it was worn by a male; Otzi the Iceman. Men used to carry purses so that they could hold all of their coins.

While handbags are more popular with women today, designers in Europe in the ‘70s revived this trend for men as well. This is something that has only gotten more and more momentum. In fact, there has been a much more diverse range of accessory bags for men that have been marketed since the ‘90s.

In the United States, the styles for men that are more common tend to be those that are variations on messenger bags or backpacks. They tend to have more of a unisex or masculine appearance. However, it’s not to say that the industry is not thriving. In fact, the worldwide trade in the men’s small leather goods and bag sector is $4 billion per annum.

History of Handbag Day

“My biggest fear is that when I die, my husband will sell all my bags for what I told him they cost.”

In order to understand the history of Handbag Day, we need to delve a little bit deeper into the history of the handbag. Purses were worn by early modern Europeans for the sole purpose of carrying coins. They were created using leather or soft fabric, and men wore them just as regularly as women did.

Young girls were taught how to embroider clothing during the 17th century. This was considered a skill that was vital for marriage. Not only this, but it helped them to craft truly stunning handbags.

Fashions in Europe changed in the late 18th century. They moved towards bags that had more of a slender shape. They were inspired by the silhouettes of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece. Ladies wanted purses that would not look untidy or bulky in their appearance. This resulted in the creation of reticules.

Reticules is a term that is used to describe bags that had wrist straps and were made of fine fabrics, for example, velvet and silk. They became highly popular in France first and foremost. After a short while, their popularity spread to the United Kingdom, and they were considered indispensable here. The trend was not adopted by men, however. Instead, they used pockets, which had started to become popular in trousers for men, as well as purses.

It was during the Industrial Revolution that the modern handbag, pouch, clutch, or purse thrived in the United Kingdom. This was partly attributed to the increase in railway travel.

Samuel Parkinson, a confectionary entrepreneur and industrialist from Doncaster, ordered a site of different handbags for his wife. When he was traveling and ordering some trunks and cases, he realized that his wife’s purse was too small for everything required. Plus, the material that it was crafted from would not have withstood the journey.

Because of this, he decided to order different bags in different sizes for various occasions for his wife. He requested that the bags were crafted using the same leather that was used for his trunks and cases. This is how the first set of luxury handbags were created, as H. J. Cave of London adhered to the orders of Samuel. These are the sorts of bags that you would recognize today!

However, it was not all plain sailing for H. J. Cave, as you may have expected. Although he continued to create and advertise these handbags, a lot of critics said that they were unnecessary. Some critics even said that the heavy material and size of the bags would break women’s backs. After 1865, H. J. Cave stopped promoting the bags as a consequence. It was not until 2010 that the production of handbags was resumed by the brand.

How to celebrate Handbag Day

“I’m very organized these days, and I keep my life in my handbag, like most women.”

It goes without saying that the best way to celebrate Handbag Day is to treat yourself to a new handbag. There are so many different handbag styles to choose from nowadays, from totes to satchels. This means that you should have no trouble finding a handbag that is right for you. No matter your individual style, color preference, or the belongings that you intend to store within your handbag; you should have no trouble finding something that is right for you. Why not donate your current bag to a charity store or sell it online in order to make way for your new bag?

You can also get involved with Handbag Day on your blog, YouTube channel, and social media platforms. A lot of bags have stories behind them, so why not share this with your followers? You can show them the different bags that you own, and tell them the story behind the bag. This is a fun way of using Handbag Day to engage with your followers, friends, and family members.

Black Cat Awareness Month 2021

Tip: Pets Coupons: Pets Coupons, Sales & Deals October 2021

German-American Heritage Month History

History of German-American Heritage Month

In October 1683 German families began settling in Pennsylvania. Since then, German Americans have contributed greatly to our society. As well as the already mentioned Easter Bunny and Santa, the Germans have had a huge influence in car manufacturing, the building of churches, the arts, and even the language. Love a good hamburger? That came from Hamburg in Germany. Hugely historical entrepreneurs such as Heinz, Chrysler, Boeing, and Rockefeller all have German American heritage.

The first proclamation of German-American Heritage Month was issued by Ronald Reagan in October 1987, and since then we have been celebrating every year.

Emotional Wellness Month History

History of Emotional Wellness Month

With our hectic schedules, devices pinging us from every direction, and modern life becoming increasingly uncertain, it’s more crucial than ever to maintain a sense of calm and balance. Emotional Wellness Month, observed all October, reminds us to disconnect and take a time out for our brain.

Maintaining a healthy emotional balance helps us make healthy choices, have good relationships, and achieve our goals. Emotional wellness gives us a toolkit for handling life’s stresses, navigating relationships, and keeping ourselves motivated. Mindfulness, a simple but powerful concept inspired by Eastern meditation traditions, is a useful way to practice engaging in the present, accepting events and feelings without judgment, and moving through life with calm and ease.

Did you know good sleep and a healthy diet can have powerful effects on your emotions? If you’re feeling depressed or anxious, make sure you’re getting proper rest and eating nutritious food. Consider your relationship to yourself and your loved ones. Do you feel confident and optimistic about your future? Do you have good communication with those you care about? Are you able to express your feelings and process difficult times in a healthy way?

High levels of stress can lead to physical complications like high blood pressure, headaches, and even chronic conditions like diabetes. If you’re having a hard time enjoying life or experiencing the physical symptoms of high stress, talk to your doctor or a therapist who can guide you toward activities and treatment options that can help you feel like yourself again.

Did you know your emotional well-being has powerful effects on your overall health? Mental and emotional stress can translate into negative physical reactions, a weakened immune system, and poor health.

“Emotional wellness” refers to our ability to process feelings in a healthy, positive way and manage the stress of everyday life. If you feel stressed or overwhelmed, try a soothing activity like meditation or yoga to slow down and clear your mind.

Use Emotional Wellness Month as an opportunity to take charge of your emotional wellness, find the soothing activities that work for you, and, most of all, breathe!

Instead of giving moon cakes, Chinese updated the festival tradition by using wi-fi to distribute "digital red envelopes" filled with "lucky money" for friends and family.

  5. Book your train ticket early

Since the Mid-Autumn Festival covers three days, train seats sell out quickly so get yours as soon as possible!

What has three names and celebrates the moon? China’s Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Harvest Moon Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar — or October 1 this year.

We know what you’re thinking. Why does the Mid-Autumn Festival take place in late summer? Because China follows the ancient lunar calendar — and the seventh, eighth and ninth lunar months are classified as autumn.  The festival, marking the end of the autumn harvest, occurs during the middle of autumn when the moon is at its fullest.

Moon worship has been an integral part of Chinese culture for  centuries. Families gather for celebrations, to eat dinner and share “moon cakes” as a way to thank the moon for a good harvest.

CD Player Day 2021

Music collections have undergone some pretty severe changes throughout history, from Vinyl to 8-Track to Cassette to CD, to MP3 Players, and onto our phones. Arguably one of the biggest changes to happen in the music world was the CD, and an icon of this change was the CD Player. As soon as it entered the scene, cassette tapes were on their way to being a thing of the past, with CD’s soon replacing all the clunky cassettes and coming packed full of special features and more music than a cassette could hold!

History of CD Player Day

The history of CD Player Day is really the history of the CD Player, and by extension, the CD’s they play. Do you remember what CD player stands for? We do! It’s Compact Disc, and it was one of the most innovative storage solutions ever created. A 1.2m thick disc of plastic with a spiral of data so tight it causes optical refraction to the viewer, creating a rainbow that, to us, is representative of the unbelievable variety of sounds that can be bound within.

In 1982, the CD Player came home, produced by Sony and set to make a massive change in the publics consumption of media, especially audio. The price was anything but reachable by the common man, however, ranging in at $2,200, and the price of CD’s being $33-$45, but that wasn’t set to last. Prices were dropping as technology improved, and in 1985 Dire Straits released their Brothers in Arms CD and it quickly became the first to sell over a million copies. The CD Player was officially here to stay.

While it was thought at the time that CD’s would obviously be the replacement for the cassette tape, no one could have anticipated that it would also be the solution technophiles had been looking for to replace the delicate floppy discs that had been in use in computing. It was faster, more durable, and could hold far more data than any of the previous storage formats, and the future of computing.

How to celebrate CD Player Day

Well first off dig out your old Discman and dig your CD’s out of storage. Yeah, we know you probably have all your music and more stored on your hard drive, or up in the cloud, but on CD Player Day it’s time to walk the paths of nostalgia back to an older, but still quite reliable, format. Remember those show your CD’s some love on CD Player Day!
